The Transformer Oil Gas Analyser (TOGA ES200) is a fully automated solution for Dissolved Gas Analysis (DGA) in transformer oils, designed according to ASTM D3612 Part C. The system enables accurate detection and quantification of gases generated by electrical and thermal faults within power transformers, providing critical diagnostic information for asset health assessment and preventive maintenance programs.
Transformer oil serves as both an insulating medium and coolant in electrical transformers. When abnormal operating conditions occur, such as overheating, partial discharge, arcing, or insulation breakdown, the oil decomposes and produces characteristic gases including hydrogen, methane, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, acetylene, ethylene, ethane, and higher hydrocarbons. By measuring these dissolved gases, operators can identify fault types and evaluate their severity before catastrophic failures occur.
The TOGA utilizes a fully automated headspace sampling technique with the Thermo Scientific TriPlus™ 500 Headspace Autosampler, ensuring reliable extraction of dissolved gases while eliminating contamination and sample loss. Each sample is individually equilibrated at controlled temperature and injected through a closed-loop system that guarantees maximum sample integrity. Automated vial leak testing further enhances measurement reliability.
The analytical system combines a micro Thermal Conductivity Detector (microTCD), a methaniser, and a Flame Ionization Detector (FID) to achieve highly sensitive detection of key fault gases from ppm to sub-ppm levels. Carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide are converted into methane via the methaniser, enabling enhanced FID sensitivity. The analyzer also includes analysis of C₃ and C₄ hydrocarbon isomers, providing a more comprehensive fault diagnostic capability than conventional DGA systems.
Built using robust diaphragm valve technology and Thermo Scientific’s InstantConnect™ injector and detector architecture, the TOGA offers exceptional uptime, modularity, and ease of maintenance. Optional performance verification and calibration kits allow laboratories to validate repeatability and analytical performance without relying on third-party standards.
