The Low-Level Sulphur Analyser (PG600 / PG610) is a high-performance analytical system designed for the accurate determination of trace sulphur compounds in gaseous, liquefied, and liquid hydrocarbon streams. Sulphur-containing species such as hydrogen sulphide (H₂S), carbonyl sulphide (COS), mercaptans, thiophenes, and other sulphur compounds can cause catalyst poisoning, corrosion, product contamination, and environmental compliance issues. As a result, reliable low-level sulphur monitoring is essential throughout refining, petrochemical, natural gas, and specialty chemical industries.
The analyser is based on proven Gas Chromatography (GC) technology and can be configured with either a Flame Photometric Detector (FPD) or a Pulsed Flame Photometric Detector (PFPD), providing highly selective sulphur detection with excellent long-term stability. Depending on the selected detector and application requirements, the system achieves detection limits from low ppm levels down to 20–30 ppb. For ultra-trace applications, alternative configurations utilizing Sulphur Chemiluminescence Detection (SCD) or GC-MS with Advanced Electron Impact (AEI) technology can achieve sub-ppb sensitivity.
The instrument utilizes a carefully engineered inert sample path with Sulfinert® (SilcoNert® 2000) passivation throughout the sampling system. This treatment minimizes adsorption of reactive sulphur compounds and ensures accurate, repeatable measurements even at extremely low concentration levels. The system can be equipped with gas sampling valves (GSV), split/splitless injectors (SSL), and application-specific capillary columns optimized for different sulphur species and sample matrices.
Built on the robust Thermo Scientific Trace GC 1600/1610 platform, the analyser offers excellent repeatability, linearity over multiple concentration decades, and seamless integration with the Chromeleon® Chromatography Data System (CDS). The modular design allows operation as a standalone sulphur analyser or integration with refinery gas analysers (RGA), natural gas analysers (NGA), and other process GC systems to provide a complete analytical solution.
Designed for continuous laboratory and process support applications, the Low-Level Sulphur Analyser delivers reliable performance, automated operation, and compliance with numerous international analytical standards, making it an ideal solution for sulphur monitoring in modern petrochemical and energy industries.
