The CCUS Gas Analyser or Acidic GAS Analyzer is a high-performance analytical system specifically developed for Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage (CCUS) applications, providing comprehensive impurity analysis in carbon dioxide streams. As CO₂ captured from industrial processes is increasingly utilized, transported, and stored, accurate monitoring of trace contaminants becomes critical to ensure process efficiency, equipment protection, regulatory compliance, and long-term storage integrity.
The analyser combines the strengths of Gas Chromatography (GC) and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) into a single integrated platform, delivering rapid and reliable identification of a broad range of impurities in CO₂. This multi-technique approach enables the detection of permanent gases, hydrocarbons, sulphur compounds, oxygenated compounds, nitrogen oxides, water, and other trace contaminants that may impact CCUS operations.
The GC platform is based on the CompactGC4.0, a compact four-channel gas chromatograph equipped with Thermal Conductivity Detection (TCD), dual Flame Ionisation Detectors (FID), and a Pulsed Flame Photometric Detector (PFPD). This configuration provides highly selective and sensitive analysis of permanent gases, hydrocarbons, sulphur compounds, and other carbon-containing species within a runtime of less than three minutes.
Complementing the GC system, the integrated FTIR analyser utilizes a DTGS detector to simultaneously measure multiple gaseous components based on their unique infrared absorption fingerprints. The FTIR system enables highly sensitive quantification of compounds such as carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, water vapour, ammonia, methanol, ethanol, formaldehyde, acetaldehyde, nitric oxide, and nitrogen dioxide without requiring chromatographic separation.
Designed for continuous industrial operation, the analyser features a compact 19-inch rack-mount design, fast analysis cycles, and detection limits ranging from ppm to sub-ppm levels. The system is fully compatible with Chromeleon® Data System software for automated control, data acquisition, reporting, and long-term trend analysis.
With its exceptional sensitivity, rapid response time, and comprehensive impurity coverage, the CCUS Gas Analyser provides an ideal solution for carbon capture facilities, CO₂ transportation networks, utilisation processes, and geological storage projects requiring reliable CO₂ purity verification.
